Get To Know Your Sewing Machine

This class suits a range of sewists — absolute beginners who've never touched a machine, “rusty” sewists wanting a refresher, and anyone with a new machine they haven't yet got to grips with. It's open to both adults and children aged 12 and up. You'll cover the essentials: identifying your machine's parts, winding the bobbin and threading correctly, choosing the right stitch and adjusting tension, changing presser feet for different tasks, and basic maintenance like changing needles and troubleshooting jams. You'll put it all into practice straight away on a small project such as a coaster or cushion cover, and leave with a newfound confidence in using your own machine.

Please bring your own sewing machine, foot pedal and accessories, along with your machine's manual if you have one — this class is all about getting to know your own equipment.

Minimum age is 12. We'll be taking photos during the session for our website and marketing — let us know beforehand if you'd rather not be included. Sewing speed varies, so you might not finish your project within the session, but you'll leave with everything you need to complete it at home.

Participants under 16 must have a parent or guardian stay in the store for the whole class. They should remain in the designated parents’ area during the session.

Bookings are non-refundable, and rescheduling is limited due to small class sizes — notify us at least two weeks ahead and we'll do our best to transfer your booking, though it can't be guaranteed. Classes need a minimum of four participants to run; if we cancel due to low enrolment, we'll offer a full refund or an alternative date.
